Iconico wants to build advocacy capacity with organizations that confront systemic and political inequities around the world. While many struggles are grounded in a tradition of self-realization, social and political analysis, and community development and mobilization, the world is rapidly changing, and we have a responsibility to continue reflecting on what’s working, what we can improve, and sharing our learnings with community partners and allies.
Position Description
To help identify organizers, activists, and advocates interested in trying new approaches and collecting learnings, we are offering three internships this summer. The internships will focus on three main projects:
The Internship Universe
We recommend that current college students with a specific interest in advocacy, education, or research apply for fellowship. Fellows need to be physically in Arizona through the participation in the internship.
Benefits for Interns
Iconico Interns will:
The overarching goal of the Iconico Intern program is to create sustainable campaigns and networks for specific projects, and share learnings with a broader community. While the fellows will not build teams, they will establish viable systems, processes, and connections that will allow the continuation of projects after the fellowship term has ended.
Management: Fellows will report to the Iconico team, who will assign additional day-to-day responsibilities based on the specific needs of the project.
Timeline
May 17: Deadline to submit application and essay.
May 20-24: Interviews for final candidates.
May 27: Internship offers extended.
June 3: Internship begins - establish project work plan.
August 31st: Fellowship ends
Compensation
Hours: A minimum of 10 hours per week.
Stipend: $800 per month.

- Organizing a Transnational Migrant Solidarity Event
- Supporting the launch of a new Education Advocacy organization led by communities of color
- Test and experiment with social media engagement for Iconico and Instituto

Iconico Interns will:
- Community Building: Students will work with a team of passionate advocates and leaders fighting to address educational inequities in Arizona, and learn more about transnational community organizing.
- Training: Interns will receive instruction in grassroots organizing, digital communication practices, data analysis and mentorship during the duration of the internship.
- Skill building: Students will develop skills including community organizing (e.g. developing a network, outreach, organizing community dialogues, phone banking, holding effective meetings, speaking one-on-one, creating trainings, etc.), communications (e.g. effective storytelling, enhancing communications via digital channels, etc.), and data research (e.g. identifying targets, analyzing statistics, tracking leaders, etc.)
- Stipend: Fellows will receive a bi-weekly compensation for their part-time work.
- Academic credits: Fellows are encouraged to seek course credit.
