Position Description
Voto Latino (VL) is seeking a Social Media Director responsible for planning, developing and managing an industry-leading social presence for our 501(c)3 and 501(c)4 organizations. The Social Media Director will also manage the day-to-day work associated with all VL social media platforms under the management of the VP of Digital Strategy and Engagement.
The Director will work with a diverse group of internal and external stakeholders to ensure the success of the organization’s social growth and engagement. Candidates should be detail oriented, enjoy working in a dynamic and entrepreneurial environment. Responsibilities Include:
Social Media Strategy & Execution
- Assist with the creation and implementation of the social media plan for national and local campaign strategies.
- Ensure that our social media promotes our mission goals; aligns with the messaging used by VL’s list at large; speaks to our main target audiences; is engaging across key social platforms.
- Coordinate and manage the day-to-day for our social programs. Create social media campaigns for all popular social networking sites (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, You Tube, etc.). Perform competitive analysis including market and audience research, social listening, etc.
- Manage and mentor junior staff and train members outside of the digital team to use social media tools as needed.
- Develop and maintain relationships with different internal teams, stakeholders, consultants and partners to ensure successful completion of various social media efforts.
Social Media Content Strategy & Production
- Work in concert with the Vice President for Digital Strategy and Engagement to set the social component for all campaigns, evergreen content, events and partner activities.
- Implement a content editorial calendar to manage content and plan specific, timely marketing campaigns.
- Lead production of compelling video and graphics, and manage staff and consultants.
- Direct and execute social media content to support grassroots mobilization team.
Rapid Response & Live Events
- Identify and execute social media strategy for rapid response digital campaigns and days of action; use the news cycle to boost key mission and advocacy priorities.
- Be available to attend and participate in calls, in-person meetings, events. concerts, press conferences to provide live social media coverage when necessary
Social Media Influencers
- Identify network of social media influencers and actively manage it in coordination with VL staff.
- Work with influencers to amplify content and brand awareness, then execute those influencer campaigns and evaluate their effectiveness.
- Outline roadmap of influencer’s activities. .
Social Media Measurement & Operations
- Work with the Vice President to set specific social media goals and track progress towards those goals.
- Analyze metrics related to the social media strategy.
- Ensure smooth operation of all social media tools.
- Identify and implement best practices for our social media efforts.
- Create social media toolkits for Voto Latino campaigns and for coalitions..
Social Media Innovation
- Stay up to speed on all industry trends and on top of platform launches and updates. Find the best method to share those trends.
- Identify new ways to use social platforms to enhance storytelling and interaction..
Qualifications Required:
- 4-year college degree
- You have 6+ years experience in this field and have run a social media program at a non-profit or electoral campaign or consulted on them at an agency.
- You are fluent with social sites including Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, Youtube, LinkedIn
- You have experience using graphics tools like Adobe Photoshop, Canva and some experience with video editing tools like Adobe Premiere, FinalCut Pro or iMovie.
- You also have hands-on experience with social listening, analytics, and management tools such as Crimson Hexagon, Spredfast, Sprout Social or Hootsuite.
- You have a deep understanding of the role digital and social media plays in the news.
- You maintain excellent writing and editing skills.
- You have experience writing social media and digital content.
- You are comfortable covering and developing social media content during live events
- You’ve run projects and led teams and can evolve processes and systems that allow you and your teams to do the best possible work.
- You have experience managing content teams.
- You can provide data and reporting on key social media performance indicators to staff and Executive team.
- You are comfortable setting and meeting tight and shifting deadlines in a fast-paced environment with lots of competing projects.
- You are a personable and collaborative team player who takes (and gives) feedback constructively.
- You have the ability to develop, nurture and manage professional, respectful and positive working relationships and deliver excellent service and communication with both internal and external clients.
- You have a proven track record in a role that demanded self motivation. You are entrepreneurial, with strong problem-solving and creative thinking skills, and can meet deadlines with minimal supervision.
- You have a demonstrated commitment to and awareness of Latino civil rights and/or issues of social justice.
- Some level of travel is required.
- Ability to work outside of normal business hours and weekends.
