LEAP Innovations

LEAP Innovations, an organization focused on innovation and education, partnered with Iconico to develop a structured community dialogue with students, parents, and community members. These stakeholders developed an increased awareness about personalized learning and identified areas for improvement in implementing this framework within their schools.

OUR STRATEGY.

Iconico wanted to ensure voices from all areas of the student body were heard, including those from the margins who are often not included in conversations about schooling or would not see themselves as the right person to engage in this conversation. Through the research and discovery process with members of the LEAP team, Iconico learned it would be crucial to make the language around personalized learning more accessible to increase engagement and understanding of the target population.

OUR EXECUTION.

Because these conversations would be facilitated by various people ranging from administrators to student leadership, it was essential to build a simple understanding before the discussion. Iconico developed a framework that laid a foundation for the ideology behind the conversation, which included the necessary inclusion, openness, and clear feedback which the conversation required. This framework prepared the facilitator to be able to move the conversation forward in an effective manner.

Secondly, we drafted a plan that led the facilitator and participants through activities, provided information for a better understanding of personalized learning. Iconico provided questions to connect the benefits of these programs and provided feedback on what areas may be problematic in a particular school or community.

OUR RESULTS.

The framework and plan Iconico developed were turned into a toolkit that leads the coordinator or facilitator through planning and executing structured conversation, regardless of the individual's experience level. Also included were templates for communications, activities, sign-in sheets, and many other organizing tools.
